The roiling river churns and slurs
Its language one of unknown lands
I followed it along its curves
Its path unfolding in wide bands
As a great wind in the valley passed
With every leaf and branch astir
I laid me down to rest at last
And turned once more to thoughts of her

Intrepid steps off the beaten path
Descending into the valley once more
A latticework of light and shadow
Dances across the forest floor
Behold the lunar mirror
A carven basin of ice-still water
Bearing within it both future and past
Witness within it tidings and omens
For myself I think we are not meant to know
The fate woven for us by the Norns
Not until the entire earth is aflame
And destiny can no longer be changed

Her laugh like rain upon a lake
Her hair crow feathers in sunset’s glow
If all the world should be unmade
At least her voice I’ve wholly known
Her breath the murmuring of evening woods
Her skin the sun reflected on snow
And though we pass through life
As a wind in the valley
This shall ever remain whole

Her voice across chasms
Her feet bathed in the light of the stars
She treads across the void
Crowned in the moon
Garbed in the setting sun
Resplendence of the night sky
Hers in corporeal form
A black ocean swells within her breast
Within it I sink, forsaking breath
Two lights shine, morning and evening stars
Fair as the twilight
Though all else should falter, this holds true
Though all else shall fade, this endures
“Now not day only shall be beloved, but night too shall
be beautiful and blessed and all its fear pass away.”
